For one night only, the city of Liverpool was buzzing as they prepared to experience the first concert since the dawn of the lockdown.

This initiative is a part of the trials being undertaken by the government in order to better understand the procedures required to host large yet safe gatherings during the ongoing pandemic.

The event for many was likely their first night out in over 13 months, and all the stringent protocols for entry needed to be adhered to.

As a ticket holder, you are expected to follow through with a series of precautionary tests before gaining entry to the venue. They had to initially visit a testing site at one of the four locations across the city to undergo a COVID-19 test.

The only way into the venue was by way of a negative test result.

Additionally, the trial process encouraged people to take another PCR test on the day of the event, before taking a final test five days after the event.

This event was orchestrated to bring together close to 5000 exhilarated participants to observe how the spread of the virus could occur during large events.

While the scientists were gathering data based on variables like audience movement, ventilation and alcohol consumption, the ticket holders were doing their level best to enjoy this rare opportunity.

As the night exploded into a vision of flashing lights, electric notes and people chatting away with friends and beer or swaying to the music, this event became the release that the city of Liverpool was sorely needing.

The current progression of the virus means that there needs to be more research done to understand the specific implications it will large events and the success of the pilot concert in Liverpool is a crucial opportunity to pave the way forward for more events in the future!
