There are certainly a variety of ways to bring attention to a valuable cause. Some people will share a message online, others will protest outside government buildings and it seems that certain people are more than happy to simply settle in and block major highways for multiple days.
Supporters of the group, an offshoot of Extinction Rebellion, have glued their hands to the ground at junction 30 at Thurrock, Essex. Essex Police has said it is working to remove protesters from the junction “as quickly and safely as possible”.
The latest demonstration marks the eighth day of action from the climate change protest group on Britain’s busiest motorway in three weeks.
The force wrote on Twitter: “We are working to get the road reopened and traffic flowing again as soon as possible.”
It added: “We were called to reports of people blocking the road and officers responded within minutes. We are currently working to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible. We know this will be frustrating for people using the road but we appreciate your patience and understanding.”
Despite the best efforts of the police and the government it is still considered difficult to charge environmental protestors. Police arrested 17 people as Insulate Britain demonstrators sat in the road to obstruct the port, calling for a “Churchillian response” to the “urgent horror” of the climate crisis.
One thing is for certain, their message is being heard loud and clear given the disruption this entity has been able to consistently cause in recent times.
As Insulate Britain does its level best to ensure that the government agrees to insulate all UK homes by 2030, there is a lot of be thought about in terms of more effective ways in which policy and legislation can be implemented.
