Jamal Edwards MBE was a music entrepreneur, DJ, and the mastermind behind the online music platform for urban music, SB.TV. He helped to launch the successful music careers of musical giants such as Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Dave, and Stormzy. He was a great philanthropist as well. He was an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a charity belonging to Prince Charles which was a youth charity that helped young people to set up their own business, In 2021, he helped set up the Jamal Edwards Delve, a project that aimed at refurbishing and reopening youth centers. Edwards was also an advocate for mental health and opened up about his struggles with anxiety. He collaborated with CALM, a mental health charity too. He also received many honors and awards, one of them being the prestigious MBE, awarded to him by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music through SBTV, and was labeled as one of the “Next Generational Leaders”.
Jamal Edwards suddenly passed away at his mother’s house from an illness, which was later revealed to be a heart attack. This unfortunate incident happened on the 20th of February. Celebrities and other famous figures got together and paid their respects to the fallen star. Notably, Prince Charles stated that “his work in music but also as an ambassador for a new generation, including his work for The Prince’s Trust, was an inspiration to so many”.His mother Brenda Edwards paid tribute to her son at a beautiful candlelit service by singing an emotional rendering of The Greatest Love Of All by Whitney Houston. The Chelsea F.C also mourned as Edwards was a lifelong fan of the club. In the Champion’s League between Lille and Chelsea F.C, fans clapped throughout the 31st minute, paying their respect to Edwards. The legacy of Jamal Edwards will live for a long time, as he showed what one can do with hard work and determination.
