The Football Association Challenge Cup (FA) this time around was full of surprises and drama, which made it quite fun to watch. Kidderminster Harriers, who were the lowest-ranked team, won against Reading. League One Cambridge United shocked by grabbing a win against Newcastle. During the Leicester City match, the lights went off, but they scored 4 goals, showing that they indeed are worthy of the FA cup.
Amongst all that, the Middlesbrough FC vs Tottenham Hotspur match contained surprises as well. The game kicked off at Old Trafford on the 1st of March. In support of Ukraine and the people affected by the horrific war, there was minute-long applause with some holding up the Ukrainian flag. Middlesbrough was fresh off their victory over the Premier League champions Manchester City, who lost the match due to Patrick Bamford’s 53rd-minute lead. The Spurs did dominate in the first few minutes, especially with Ryan Sessegnon, however, Middlesbrough did not falter and kept a steady mind. The Spurs did almost break the possession of the ball by the Middlesbrough team, but Heung-Min Son couldn’t get a hold of the ball properly and be stopped by the defenders.
Nearing the end of the match, it was quite apparent that the Spurs did not do their best that day. Harry Kane, who’s usually in good form, even gave the ball away in the M’boro half and lost possession halfway again later on. M’boro’s Duncan Watmore also had a powerful run, dashing through three players. The match had to have extra time since both teams were 0 – 0. Then Josh Coburn, who’s an underdog, really slipped through Hugo Lloris and kicked the ball forwards to score a goal for Middlesbrough FC! It was a wonderful thing to see. Fans were ecstatic to see the Middlesbrough team win yet again and it was certainly a day to remember for Coburn. The Middlesbrough team qualified to the 6th round while the Hotspurs are out of the game, unfortunately.
