Prince William and Kate Middleton visited the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London, where volunteers are making a huge effort to aid those affected by the invasion of Russia.
The visit was made after a week when the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked them for their support. The couple had tweeted, “In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelenskyy and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future. Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future 🇺🇦 W & C. “To which the Ukrainian President replied, Olena and I are grateful to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge @RoyalFamily that at this crucial time, when Ukraine is courageously opposing Russia’s invasion, they stand by our country and support our brave citizens. Good will triumph.” Last week, a source from Buckingham Palace also verified that Queen Elizabeth II had made a secret, generous donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian appeal.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited on Wednesday, March 9th and met with Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.K, Vadym Prystaiko, and his wife, Inna. They introduced the royal couple to the centre as well as the members of the Ukrainian community and the volunteers. Wearing lapel pins of blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid close attention to the difficulties faced by the volunteers in the matter of providing the necessary care for the ones who have been afflicted by the war. Kate seemingly seemed emotional, fighting back tears, whilst she was conversing with the members of the community. They were also invited to package some of the generous donations made by kind U.K. citizens. The Duchess gifted the volunteers with homemade cookies as well.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the centre with the intention of learning about the efforts made to support Ukraine by the UK and Europe. They also spoke with Saleh Saeed, CEO of Disasters Emergency Committee, so as to get educated on ways to help the war stricken country and her strong citizens.
