The singer, who was released from her controversial conservatorship last November after 13 years, confirmed that she has written a memoir about her life. In November, a judge terminated a legal guardianship that had governed many aspects of her life for over a decade. Spears was placed in a conservatorship in 2008 by her father, Jamie Spears, due to a mental health crisis. The contentious arrangement gave him authority over her finances and career decisions, as well as major personal matters such as her visits to her teenage sons and whether she could remarry.
The 40-year-old took to Instagram to share a lengthy message with fans, revealing that the process has dredged up old memories about her experiences under the court order and with her family. “I want to address my recent post captioning my cast… To my understanding, to most it’s confusing… Why express now? Well I’m writing a book at the moment and as it’s actually healing and therapeutic… It’s also hard bringing up past events in my life”, she told fans.
The 40-year-old added that she approached the memoir with an “intellectual approach.” However, the actress also chastised her mother and sister, accusing them of “indulging themselves by writing their own books while I couldn’t even get a cup of coffee or drive my car.” Since her appearance on Good Morning America to promote her book, Things I Should Have Said, Jamie Lynn Spears has been embroiled in a public feud with Britney Spears. Her own life story is detailed in the book, including her young daughter’s near-fatal accident in 2017, her relationship with Britney, and her role in the singer’s contentious conservatorship.
Britney also took the opportunity to thank ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake for apologizing for his previous behaviour last year (good timing indeed), admitting that he ‘benefited from a system that condones misogyny’ during their bitter divorce.
She is believed to have signed a deal worth around $15 million (£11 million) for her own words, following the release of her sister Jamie Lynn Spears’ book, earlier this year. The book caused quite the controversy. According to a recent Page Six report, the mother of two has struck a lucrative deal with publishing house Simon and Schuster for her side of the story. An insider told the outlet that the memoir was the subject of a “bidding war,” and that “the deal is one of the biggest of all time.”
