Rapper A$AP Rocky According to authorities, Rocky was detained in California in connection with a shooting in Hollywood last year. The 33-year-old, real name Rakim Mayers, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday. According to NBC News, he was detained at Los Angeles International Airport, where he was arriving on a private plane from Barbados. He was on vacation with his girlfriend, Rihanna, who is currently pregnant. Authorities said Mayers was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on November 6, last year, after an argument erupted. Mayers is accused of firing a handgun at an acquaintance, who suffered a minor injury and sought medical attention later, according to police. Requests for comment from Mayers’ RCA Records publicist and attorney were not immediately returned.
Mayers, who was born in New York, was one of the decade’s biggest breakout stars, earning eight platinum singles in the United States, including Wild For The Night, Everyday, LSD, and A$AP Forever. He rose to prominence after Drake championed him, and he has collaborated with artists such as Alicia Keys, Lana Del Rey, Skepta, Selena Gomez, and Kendrick Lamar. Last year, his relationship with billionaire musician and fashion mogul Rihanna was confirmed. Mayers described Rihanna as the “love of my life” in an interview with GQ magazine last May. In January, the couple announced that they were expecting a child. Rihanna revealed to Elle magazine in March that she was in her third trimester.
A$AP Rocky is set to open for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on June 22nd in Manchester, and he is also on the bill for the Wireless Festival in London in July. Later this year, he will also tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Germany.
