Kevin Spacey, a popular actor in Hollywood, is being investigated on five separate counts of sexual assault and one allegation of causing a person to engage in penetrating sexual behaviour without consent. The alleged crimes occurred between 2005 and 2013 in London and Gloucestershire. After saying earlier that he “strongly denies” what three men in their 30s and 40s have said about him, Spacey, 62, spoke clearly as he formally pleaded not guilty to five charges at the Old Bailey in central London.
Actor Kevin Spacey Fowler pled not guilty to five sexual assault allegations and one count of inducing a person to engage in penetrative sexual conduct without consent when he appeared in court using his full name. He is free on bail with no conditions, and his three-to-four-week trial is scheduled to begin on June 6, 2023 (following a preliminary hearing earlier that year). Upon the conclusion of the brief court hearing, Spacey expressed his gratitude to the judge.
The actor is accused of committing the crimes between 2005 and 2013 while he was artistic director of London’s Old Vic theatre. Although Spacey maintains a Waterloo address, his family and nine-year-old dog are back in the States. He “strenuously denies any and all crimes in this case,” his lawyer, Patrick Gibbs QC, stated at the initial hearing in a magistrates’ court in June of this year. Spacey, according to Gibbs, went to the UK to “prove his innocence” and “continue with his life.”
Spacey is accused of;
1) sexually assaulting a man in his forties in March of 2005 in London. The victim is now in his forties.
2) In August 2008, a man in his 30s was sexually assaulted and forced to engage in penetrating sexual activity against his will in London.
3)A man in his thirties was sexually assaulted in Gloucestershire in April 2013.
The Crown Prosecution Service approved the accusations in May, but the actor couldn’t be formally charged until he arrived in the United Kingdom.
Starring roles in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects, for which Spacey earned an Oscar, and the smash Netflix series House of Cards, have made Spacey a household name. Between the years 2004 and 2015, he served as the Old Vic’s artistic director.
