Information Commissioner to Investigate Police’s Disclosure of Nicola Bulley’s Health Information

The Information Commissioner, John Edwards, has announced that he will be investigating Lancashire Police’s disclosure of Nicola Bulley’s struggles with alcohol and the menopause, following her disappearance three weeks ago during a riverside dog walk in St Michael’s on Wyre. Edwards emphasized that data protection laws exist to ensure personal information is used properly and fairly, and personal details should not be disclosed inappropriately. While police can disclose information to protect the public and investigate crime, they need to demonstrate that such disclosure was necessary.
