Former Premier League footballer Christian Atsu found dead after Turkey earthquake

Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu, who previously played for Premier League teams Everton, Chelsea, and Newcastle, has been found dead under the rubble of his home in Antakya, Hatay, almost two weeks after a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Turkey. Atsu’s agent, Nana Sechere, confirmed the news on Twitter and expressed his condolences to Atsu’s family and loved ones. Atsu, who was 31 years old, had been missing since his apartment collapsed due to the earthquake. He had recently been playing for Turkish team Hatayspor and had helped Ghana reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final, where he was named the tournament’s player of the competition. The earthquake and aftershocks have claimed more than 40,000 lives in southern Turkey and northern Syria.
