On Sunday, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced the launch of a paid subscription service called Meta Verified. The service will be available starting at $11.99 per month and will enable users to verify their accounts with a government ID, get a blue badge, obtain extra impersonation protection against fake accounts, and access customer support directly. The feature will roll out initially in Australia and New Zealand, and only users over 18 will be allowed to subscribe. The company aims to enhance authenticity and security across its platforms. In addition, the announcement comes as Meta faces financial troubles and increased scrutiny over its investment in the metaverse.
