Biden reaffirmed commitments to their security and discussed additional support for Ukraine with the leaders of the Bucharest Nine, the countries on NATO’s eastern flank who joined the Western military alliance after being dominated by Moscow during the Cold War. The group has called for additional resources, such as air defense systems. Biden’s visit comes ahead of the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
