Starbucks, the world’s largest coffee chain, has announced the launch of a range of olive oil-infused drinks in Italy, including an iced shaken espresso and a latte with olive oil “steamed with oat milk”. The Oleato range, which will be introduced in stores in Southern California in the US this spring and later in the UK, Middle East, and Japan, has been developed to enhance the coffee flavor and “linger beautifully on the palate,” according to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. Despite facing obstacles in expanding into the Italian food and drinks market, Starbucks currently has around 20 stores in Italy, with plans to bring the new selection of hot and iced drinks to the country. The use of olive oil in the coffee drinks is expected to attract health-conscious consumers, as olive oil is known for its health benefits and is a key ingredient in the Mediterranean diet.
