Magnitude 6.8 Earthquake Strikes Eastern Tajikistan, Followed by 5.0 Aftershock
On Thursday morning, Tajikistan's semi-autonomous eastern region, Gorno-Badakhshan, experienced a magnitude 6.8 earthquake with an epicenter located around 82 km from the border with China. Chinese state television CCTV reported a 7.3-magnitude earthquake near the border of China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region and Tajikistan at around the same time.
