Rare Northern Lights display seen in southern UK and Scotland

On Sunday night, an unusual occurrence took place as the northern lights were visible as far south as Kent and Cornwall. BBC Weather Watchers reported that the display in more northern areas of the UK was one of the best seen in a very long time. Auroras are formed when charged particles from solar flares on the Sun interact with our atmosphere. Further displays are anticipated in the upcoming nights. The most vibrant display of bright greens and deep reds was observed across Scotland and northern England, with sightings in Northern Ireland, south Wales and Norfolk as well.
