A small independent bookshop owner, Sapphire Bates, in Ramsgate, Kent, reached out for help on social media as she was struggling to pay bills amounting to £800 by Tuesday. The tweet gained immense traction with over 3.2 million views and garnered support from famous personalities such as author Ian Rankin and comedian Sue Perkins. Bates stated that the shop had experienced a very slow winter and struggled to make ends meet with bills piling up, including rent, staff costs, bills from wholesalers, and fuel bills, all due in the coming days. Perkins requested her Twitter followers to assist the bookshop, which received an overwhelming response.
