A fatal train collision occurred in northern Greece on Tuesday night, leading to the death of at least 36 people, with dozens more sustaining injuries. Survivors have recounted their harrowing experiences of the train carriage overturning and catching fire. One passenger described the ten seconds of chaos, including tumbling over, fires, cables hanging, and broken windows. The cause of the collision is not yet known, and it is being referred to as Greece’s worst train crash. Emergency services, including 150 firefighters and 40 ambulances, were deployed to the scene, with cranes used to remove debris. The collision’s aftermath was captured in footage showing thick plumes of smoke rising from derailed carriages. Rescue efforts have been challenging due to the severity of the collision, with volunteers working throughout the night to find survivors.
