Discussions at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in India were dominated by angry exchanges over Russia’s actions in Ukraine, resulting in no joint statement. The US secretary of state condemned Russia’s “unprovoked and unjustified war,” while Russia’s foreign minister accused the West of “blackmail and threats.” India, the host nation, had hoped to focus on issues affecting developing nations but said the differences over Ukraine were too great to reconcile. The G20, comprising 19 of the world’s wealthiest nations plus the EU, represents 85% of global economic output and two-thirds of its population. The meeting marked the first face-to-face talks between the top US and Russian diplomats since the war began over a year ago.
