The UK government is proposing new legislation that would remove migrants arriving in the UK by small boats, ban them from future re-entry, and make them ineligible to apply for British citizenship. This move is part of the government’s efforts to tackle the rise in numbers of asylum seekers making the dangerous crossing from France to the UK. However, the Refugee Council has criticized the plans, stating that thousands of people will be left “permanently in limbo” as a result.
