BBC’s Gary Lineker not afraid of suspension over impartiality row

Gary Lineker, the host of Match of the Day on the BBC, has said that he is not afraid of suspension after posting a tweet that criticised the UK government’s asylum policy. Lineker compared the language used by the government in setting out its asylum plans to that used in 1930s Germany. The BBC said it was in discussion with Lineker about remaining impartial, a sentiment echoed by the UK culture secretary, Lucy Frazer. Richard Ayre, former editorial policy controller at the BBC, said that Lineker must consider whether to stay or to leave the corporation and “become a social media influencer”.
