NHS staff in England, excluding doctors, have been offered a 5% pay rise starting from April, along with a one-off payment of at least £1,655 to supplement the past year’s pay award. This offer has been recommended by unions after nearly two weeks of negotiations with ministers, raising hopes that the long-standing dispute may be resolved. Health Secretary Steve Barclay has called the pay rise a “fair” one, which would also maintain the government’s commitment to halve inflation. Mr. Barclay expressed his admiration for the hard work of NHS staff and said that he looked forward to working with them to make the NHS a better place to work. Both sides have shown willingness to compromise, and the unions have been commended for their “constructive engagement” by Mr. Barclay.
