The National Zakat Foundation, a charity that assists British Muslims with financial difficulties, has reported an overwhelming demand for its services. According to the charity, requests for crisis grants have reached unprecedented levels, with up to 2,000 applications per month, approximately double what it was last year. Processing time has been increased to four months, compared to the previous two weeks, due to the surge in demand. Successful applicants can receive cash grants of around £600 for an individual and approximately £1,000 for a family of two children. Dr Sohail Hanif, the charity’s CEO, stated that some of the stories they have received sounded like they were from war zones and were hard to believe that they were from the UK.
