Labour blocks Jeremy Corbyn from standing as candidate in next election

Labour’s National Executive Committee has voted to prevent former party leader Jeremy Corbyn from standing as a Labour candidate in the next election. The motion, put forward by current Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, was approved by a vote of 22 to 12. Corbyn is currently suspended from being a Labour MP and sits as an independent due to controversy surrounding allegations of antisemitism. Corbyn called the decision a “shameful attack on party democracy” and suggested he may run as an independent candidate in his constituency of Islington North. He also criticized Starmer for breaking his pledge to build a united and democratic party.
