After a lengthy legal battle that lasted nearly eight years, Gwyneth Paltrow was found not at fault for a 2016 ski crash that occurred at a resort in Utah. The judge allowed Paltrow to leave the courtroom ahead of the media, and as she made her way to the exit, she stopped briefly to whisper something to Terry Sanderson, the man who sued her.
Sanderson, a retired eye doctor, was found “100% responsible” for the crash, and Paltrow was cleared of any wrongdoing. When asked about the exchange outside the courtroom, Sanderson revealed that Paltrow said to him, “I wish you well,” to which he responded, “Thank you, dear.”
Although the conversation was not recorded by courtroom microphones, it did not stop people on social media from speculating about what was said. Some imagined Paltrow speaking in a mobster-like tone, while others joked that she would name her next wellness candle “Total Vindication.”
Despite the playful online commentary, the end of the trial brought closure for both parties. Some social media users speculated that Paltrow and Sanderson would enter a period of “conscious uncoupling,” referencing a phrase coined during the actress’ divorce from Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin. At the end of the day, one user summed it up best: “I wish them both well. Thank you for a highly entertaining week.”
